The Changing Tides

Posted Tuesday, March 09, 2010

Hello faithful readers!

It's been quite a whirlwind in the world of Miss America these last few weeks, hasn't it?

We are in the midst of welcoming our brand new Miss America Caressa Cameron, who was in our hometown just last week, and then we get word that TLC is no longer the home for the Miss America pageant.

It's a bit of a head scratcher, in my mind. I think the telecast this year was the best it has been since leaving network television. And I will sorely, sorely miss my annual chance to be in the same room as Clinton Kelly.

But?

I am so excited for the future!

I am sure you have heard the rumors and third party reports about Miss America being televised on FOX and although that may not happen, it is exciting to hear about it!

We could be on FOX, or any other number of networks. The pageant could move to a different city, a different time of year...anything!

I think at times like this, it is important to be positive. We are entering spring, FINALLY, and there are so many opportuniities ahead of us.

And if I may get philosophical for just a moment, I would like to say this. I love the Miss America pageant. I watched it as a little girl, and attending the pageant is a dream come true. It is a magical event. But it is one day out of a whole year. And I know that every.single.day you are all out there making magic happen for your contestants and volunteers and supporters. And all that magic added up is something extraordinary.

I love that one day, but what you all do on a daily basis means more to me. So we keep on keeping on, and the network stuff will come out in the wash. We still have plenty of wonder in our lives.

What do YOU think?

Jen Moser from Oregon:
I couldn't agree with you more. It is an honor to be on a board of directors for a local. Sitting at the Miss America pageant this year was an incredible moment. And knowing on such a personal level one of the incredible ladies up there made it a memory I will treasure always. I have complete faith that this program is headed in the right direction. I too will miss Clinton Kelly, but am so appreciative of the incredible moments he brought to the pageant over the last couple years.
